Wyvern Academy to Benefit from Solar Panel Investment Under National Clean Energy Scheme

Wyvern Academy in Darlington, part of Consilium Academies, is set to benefit from the nationwide rollout of solar panels funded by Great British Energy and the UK government. The scheme, announced 17th November 2025, will deliver rooftop solar installations to over 250 schools across England - enabling them to generate clean, home‑grown electricity, reduce energy costs, and reinvest savings into education.

As part of the initiative, Wyvern Academy will join the growing number of schools embracing renewable energy, helping secure long‑term energy savings and contribute to a lower‑carbon future.

Joel Thornton, Director of Infrastructure and Operations at Consilium Academies, said:

“We are delighted to be working with Great British Energy and our delivery partner AECom to install solar panels at Wyvern Academy. This will make the school far more energy-efficient, reduce our carbon footprint, and deliver financial savings that can be redirected into resources for our students. It’s a positive step for our school community and the environment.”

The new solar installation will protect Wyvern Academy against rising energy bills while supporting the school’s commitment to sustainability and responsible resource management, aligning with national efforts to ensure public buildings operate in a climate-resilient, net-zero way.
