The Role of Parents/Carers

We ask all parents/carers who send their child to our school to support the school uniform policy.

The Academy Uniform

Our policy on school uniform is based on the notion that school uniform:

  • Promotes a sense of pride in the academy.
  • Engenders a sense of community and belonging towards the school.
  • Is practical and smart.
  • Identifies the student with the academy.
  • Prevents students from coming to school in fashionable clothes that could be distracting in class.
  • Makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance.
  • Is regarded as suitable wear for school and good value for money by most parents.
  • Is designed with health and safety in mind.

It is our school policy that all students wear the school uniform when attending school, representing the school, or when participating in a school-organised event outside normal school hours. Uniform is compulsory and a condition of accepting a place at Wyvern Academy.

  • All students to always wear blazers in school.
  • Either black tailored trousers (i.e. has a zip, buttons and pockets and not made from legging material) OR black pleated knee length skirt
  • Shirt, plain white with proper collar (Polo Shirts are not permitted).
  • Black tights or Black socks
  • Plain black, polishable leather shoes (NOT boots or trainers) with no logos or metal pieces attached.
  • Waterproof outdoor coat
  • School bag
  • School water bottle (First provided free of charge)
  • Optional - V-neck black jumper, no logo (Must be worn under blazer)

There are two uniform items which must be sourced from particular suppliers:

Tie - Wyvern stripe – available from the school (1 tie given free to all new starters).

Outdoor Wear
A dark sensible showerproof/waterproof coat/jacket, worn over the blazer
(Sweatshirts and hoodies not permitted).

PE Kit

  • Black polo shirt (branded polo shirt from Macron Sports)
  • Plain black jumper (With no hood)
  • Plain black leggings or tracksuit bottoms with no stripes or large logos
  • Black ‘football’ shorts
  • Red socks
  • Training shoes with non-marking soles.
  • Football boots & shin pads
  • Mouth guard would be advisable for use in contact sports

Unform Policy – Additional Information
Full school uniform is to be worn to, and from, school and at ALL TIMES in school.

  • All students who wish to wear a skirt must only wear it at a modest length. Skirts must be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee.
  • Students are not allowed to wear over-knee socks or leg-warmers
  • Shirts must be tucked into trousers or skirt and buttoned to the neck.
  • Only school related badges are to be worn on your blazer lapels • The sleeves of your blazer must not be pushed or rolled up
  • When the weather requires an extra layer, a scarf and an appropriately smart coat with no large logos may be worn over the school blazer.
  • Hoodies and tracksuit tops are not permitted in school and will be taken off students until the end of the school day if they are seen wearing them indoors
  • No chewing gum

Hair

  • Only conventional styles, cuts and natural colours are permitted
  • Extreme hair colours and styles are not allowed, particularly shaven designs.
  • Plain black or plain white hijabs (if required) Jewellery • Jewellery of any description is not permitted and is not practical for many reasons
  • Bracelets and charity bands are not permitted
  • No studs or piercings whatsoever
  • Students will be required to remove any items of jewellery which contravenes this code; they will be confiscated until parents/carers collect them from school. If you do decide to allow your child to have additional piercings, please ensure that they are removed for school
  • Smart watches are not permitted - Wrist watches are permitted, however these are not permitted in any exam halls. Make up
  • Only natural looking make-up is permitted
  • Excess facial or hand make-up will have to be removed
  • Nail varnish and false nails are not permitted
  • False eye lashes are not permitted

Jewellery

  • Jewellery of any description is not permitted and is not practical for many reasons

Mobile phones and electronic devices

  • School will not be held responsible for any mobile phones or electronic devices brought in by students.
  • Mobiles and electronic devices should be switched off at all times and kept out of sight.
  • Any mobile phones seen or heard will be confiscated and placed at student reception until the end of the day. Persistent confiscation will result in parents needing to collect the device.
  • Tattoos are not allowed
  • No valuables should be brought into school. This includes technology and jewellery
